EWA BEACH

 ʻEWA means "crooked" or "ill-fitting" in Hawaiian.There is a myth that the gods Kane and Kanaloa threw a stone to determine the boundaries of Ewa.

The stone was lost and found at Pili o Kahe. Ewa Beach was a huge plantation farm when Hawaiʻi was under the rule of Queen Lili'uokalani.  Ewa Beach is know for its earlier Ewa Sugar Plantation.  ʻEwa is used to point to  ʻEwa Beach, along the westward shore. 

Ewa Beach has Puʻuloa Beach Park were locals gather to fish, and have large family gatherings and just to the south is a firing range.

Oneʻula Beach Park is also a great place for fishing and family gatherings. It is just across from the new Hoakalei Kuapapa and Kipuka Subdivisions.

Currently both parks are free of commercial hotels and restaurants.

Hoakalei country club is now open for members with Reflections Restaurant:  Hoakalei means "reflection of a lei" and comes from a Hawaiian legend about the volcano goddess Pele and her sister Hi'laka's journey across the island chain to retrieve Pele's lover Lohiau. Pe Hi'iaka crossed the Ewa Plain and came to see a reflection of herself in a spring while adorned with garlands of lehua blossoms (thus the "reflection of a lei" translation).  

As you stroll on the beaches of Ewa Beach, you may take in Diamond Head off to the distance, a seal relaxing on the beach, or admire some of the beach homes along the beach.

The main shopping center in Ewa Beach is the Laulani Village Shopping Center and  Ka Makana ALI'I The Center for West Oahu with shopping, movie theatre, and Restaurants sits on the western end of Ewa.
